# Telecaster with a stacked-style bridge and a humbucker neck

Humbucker neck, stacked-style Tele bridge · Three-way Tele switch · One volume · One tone

DiMarzio's Telecaster harness with a four-conductor humbucker in the neck and an Area T stacked-style four-conductor bridge pickup, on a three-way Tele switch. On both pickups the black and white leads are joined and taped. On the Area T, the red and bare leads go to the volume casing and the green lead goes to the switch. It uses a 500K custom-taper volume, a 250K custom-taper tone, a .022 µF capacitor and a Switchcraft two-conductor jack.

## Parts and values

- Neck pickup: Neck pickup (BARE, GREEN, RED, BLACK, WHITE); generic (Humbucker (four-conductor, DiMarzio colours))
- Area T bridge: Area T™ bridge DP418 (RED, WHITE, BLACK, GREEN, BARE); generic (Humbucker (four-conductor, DiMarzio colours))
- Three-way switch: Three-way switch for Tele® (EP1105); compatible example (CRL 3-Way Blade)
- Volume 500K custom taper: Volume 500K custom taper pot (EP1201); 500k; compatible example (CTS 500k Audio Pot)
- Tone 250K custom taper: Tone 250K custom taper pot (EP1200); 250k; compatible example (CTS 250k Audio Pot)
- .022µF: .022µF capacitor (EP1022); 22nF; compatible example (Orange Drop .022µF)
- Output jack: Switchcraft® output jack, 2-conductor (EP1301); compatible example (Switchcraft \#11)
- Bridge ground: TO BRIDGE GROUND; generic (Bridge ground wire)

## Specific to this wiring

- On the neck humbucker, the black and white leads are joined and insulated.
- On the Area T bridge pickup, the black and white leads are joined and insulated.
- The Area T's red and bare leads go to the volume casing; its green lead goes to the switch.
- Where the neck red crosses the bridge red and bare, the neck red is drawn broken (a hop), not joined.
- The tone signal enters at the tone pot's middle lug (wiper); the capacitor sits on an end lug.
- The source gives no position legend. The switch tags are not labelled, so they are mapped by what each does.
- The source specifies custom-taper pots. The simulator treats them as linear, so settings between the knob ends are approximate.

## Connections

1. Neck green → Volume casing (case, green)
2. Neck bare shield → Volume casing (shield, bare): Drawn thin grey beside the green.
3. Bridge green → Switch bottom-row fourth lug (wire, green)
4. Bridge red → Volume casing (case, red)
5. Bridge bare shield → Volume casing (shield, bare): Drawn thin grey beside the bridge red to the lower casing dots.
6. Volume casing → Volume top lug (case, black)
7. Volume top lug → Tone casing (case, black)
8. .022 µF capacitor → Tone casing (case)
9. Tone casing → Jack sleeve (wire, black)
10. Bridge ground wire → Jack sleeve (wire, black): Labelled TO BRIDGE GROUND.
11. Neck red → Switch top-row first lug (wire, red): Where it crosses the bridge red and bare it is drawn broken (a hop).
12. Switch bottom-row first lug → Switch bottom-row second lug (bridge, grey)
13. Switch bottom-row second lug → Switch top-row third lug (bridge, grey)
14. Switch top-row third lug → Switch top-row fourth lug (bridge, grey)
15. Switch top-row fourth lug → Volume bottom lug (input) (wire, light grey)
16. Neck black → Neck white (insulated, black): Joined at one solder dot with nothing else on it.
17. Bridge black → Bridge white (insulated, black): Joined at one solder dot with nothing else on it.
18. Volume middle lug → Jack tip (wire, dark grey)
19. Volume bottom lug → Tone middle lug (wire, lavender)
20. Tone bottom lug → .022 µF capacitor (wire)

## What each position does

- Neck: Neck pickup (both coils).
- Neck and bridge: Neck pickup (both coils) and Area T bridge (both coils) in parallel.
- Bridge: Area T bridge (both coils).

- The source's custom-taper pots are not reproduced: both pots are simulated with a linear track, so settings between the knob ends are approximate.
- The stacked-style Area T bridge is simulated as a generic side-by-side four-conductor humbucker; hum cancelling and phase describe the generic pickup models, not measured DiMarzio pickups. With the sheet's red-to-ground and green-to-switch mapping on the stand-in, the middle position reads out of phase even though the real Area T is drawn that way for phase with the neck.
- Pickup resistance is not specified, so no numeric meter readings are given.

## Check before plugging in

- Position 1: continuity from jack tip to sleeve through the neck humbucker only.
- Position 3: continuity through the bridge pickup only.
- The taped black–white joints on both pickups should read open to ground.
