Three four-conductor single-coil-sized pickups · Five-way blade · One volume · One tone

Seymour Duncan Everything Axe set: neck, middle and bridge four-conductor pickups on a five-way blade with one 250k volume, one 250k tone and a .047 cap. Neck and bridge run with red and white joined and taped; the middle pickup's black and red go to the switch together and its white is grounded with the green and bare.

## Specific to this wiring

- Neck and bridge pickups: red & white soldered together and taped off.
- Green & bare wires from all pickups get soldered here: the upper solder spot on the volume casing, which also takes the ground wire to the bridge.
- For middle pickup, green, bare and WHITE must be soldered here (the same upper solder spot). The middle pickup's black and red ('middle black & red') both go to the switch.
- The bridge black, middle black & red and neck black go to three lugs in one row of the switch; that row's common runs across to a lug on the other row, where it is soldered, and on to the volume's input lug.
- The source does not number the switch tags or positions; the lugs are mapped by what they do (bridge, bridge + middle, middle, middle + neck, neck).
- The volume's outer lug is bent onto the casing under the lower solder spot, which is wired to the jack sleeve.
- A wire from the volume's input lug runs to the tone's first lug; the tone middle lug takes the .047 cap to the solder spot on the tone casing, and the tone casing is wired to the volume's lower solder spot.
- Legend: the grey Solder spot marks the location for ground (earth) connections. Jack: Tip (hot output); Sleeve (ground), the inner, circular portion of the jack.

## Connections

1. Neck green → Volume casing (case, green)
2. Neck bare → Volume casing (case, bare)
3. Middle green → Volume casing (case, green)
4. Middle bare → Volume casing (case, bare)
5. Bridge green → Volume casing (case, green)
6. Bridge bare → Volume casing (case, bare)
7. Ground wire to bridge → Volume casing (case, black)
8. Volume bottom lug → Volume casing (case): Lug bent onto the lower solder spot.
9. Volume casing → Jack sleeve (wire, black)
10. Middle white → Volume casing (case, white): Drawn with the middle green and bare into the upper solder spot.
11. .047 cap → Tone casing (case)
12. Tone casing → Volume casing (lower solder spot) (case, black)
13. Bridge black → Switch wired row, top lug (wire, black)
14. Middle black → Switch wired row, second lug (wire, black): Runs beside the middle red ('middle black & red').
15. Neck black → Switch wired row, third lug (wire, black)
16. Switch common (wired row, bottom lug) → Switch opposite row, top lug (wire, black): Soldered at that lug on its way to the volume.
17. Switch opposite row, top lug → Volume input lug (wire, black)
18. Middle red → Switch wired row, second lug (wire, red): Runs beside the middle black ('middle black & red').
19. Neck red → Neck white (insulated, red): Soldered together and taped off.
20. Bridge red → Bridge white (insulated, red): Soldered together and taped off.
21. Volume middle lug → Jack tip (wire, black): Hops over the tone-ground and sleeve wires.
22. Volume input lug → Tone first lug (wire, black)
23. Tone middle lug → .047 cap (wire)

## What each position does

- Bridge: Bridge pickup (both coils).
- Bridge + middle: Middle pickup (coils in parallel) and Bridge pickup (both coils) in parallel.
- Middle: Middle pickup (coils in parallel).
- Middle + neck: Neck pickup (both coils) and Middle pickup (coils in parallel) in parallel.
- Neck: Neck pickup (both coils).

- Hum cancelling and phase describe the generic pickup models, not a measurement of the Everything Axe pickups.
- Pickup resistance is not specified, so no numeric meter readings are given.

## Check before plugging in

- In each switch position, the meter across the jack should read the selected pickup, or two in parallel in positions 2 and 4.
- With the volume at zero, tip and sleeve should read as a short.
- The neck and bridge taped red–white joints should read open to ground.
- Turning the tone down should load the selected pickup through the .047 µF capacitor.
