# One humbucker with a push/pull series/parallel volume

Canonical page: https://guitarwiring.app/wiring-diagrams/seymour-duncan/one-humbucker-push-pull-series-parallel-volume

One humbucker · Push/pull series/parallel volume · No tone

A single humbucker with one volume whose push/pull switch swaps the two coils between series and parallel. It needs a 500k push/pull pot and a mono jack.

## Parts and values

- Bridge pickup: Bridge Pickup; generic (Humbucker (four-conductor, Seymour Duncan colours))
- Volume 500k push/pull: Volume 500k push/pull; 500k; compatible example (500k Push-Pull DPDT)
- Output jack: Output Jack; compatible example (Switchcraft \#11)
- Bridge ground: Bridge ground wire; generic (Bridge ground wire)

## Specific to this wiring

- The humbucker's red and white leads are not joined: white goes to the middle lug of the left switch column and red to the middle lug of the right column.
- A short jumper joins the middle lug of the left column to the top lug of the right column. The top lug of the left column stays empty.
- Green and bare share the bottom lug of the left column, which is also wired to the volume casing. The pickup black shares the bottom lug of the right column, which is wired to the volume's input lug.
- The bridge ground wire and the jack sleeve both go to the volume casing.
- The source's legend: the grey Solder mark is the location for ground (earth) connections.

## Connections

1. Pickup green → Push/pull left bottom lug (wire, green)
2. Pickup bare → Push/pull left bottom lug (shield, bare): Drawn grey; shares the lug with the green lead.
3. Push/pull left bottom lug → Volume casing (case, black)
4. Volume right lug → Volume casing (case): Lug bent onto the casing.
5. Volume casing → Jack sleeve (wire, black)
6. Bridge ground wire → Volume casing (wire, black)
7. Pickup white → Push/pull left middle lug (wire, white)
8. Pickup red → Push/pull right middle lug (wire, red)
9. Pickup black → Push/pull right bottom lug (wire, black)
10. Push/pull left middle lug → Push/pull right top lug (wire, black): Short diagonal jumper across the switch.
11. Push/pull right bottom lug → Volume left lug (input) (wire, black): Hops over the middle-lug wire without joining it.
12. Volume middle lug → Jack tip (wire, black)

## What each position does

- Knob pushed down: series (full humbucker): Bridge pickup (both coils). Source: Red reaches white through the jumper; black is hot and green is ground, so the coils are in series.
- Knob pulled up: parallel: Bridge pickup (coils in parallel). Source: White joins green on ground and red joins black on the hot, so the coils are in parallel.

- Pickup resistance is not specified, so no numeric meter readings are given.
- The source does not say which knob position is series; this follows the usual push/pull behaviour (pulled joins the middle lugs to the lugs nearest the pot).
- In the parallel state the engine's series-link check flags the red and white leads as not joined; that is what a series/parallel switch does, and the engine still reads the pickup as parallel.

## Check before plugging in

- Knob down: tip to sleeve reads the full humbucker's resistance.
- Knob up: the reading drops to roughly a quarter of the series reading.
- With the volume at zero, tip and sleeve should read as a short in both knob positions.
