# One single coil with one volume and one tone

One single coil · No switch · One volume · One tone

The simplest complete guitar harness: one single-coil pickup straight to a volume and a tone control, then to the output jack. It needs two 250k pots, a .047 µF capacitor and a mono jack.

## Parts and values

- Single coil: Single coil (white/black leads); generic (Single-coil pickup (two-conductor))
- Volume: Volume 250K; 250k; compatible example (CTS 250k Audio Pot)
- Tone: Tone 250k; 250k; compatible example (CTS 250k Audio Pot)
- .047 µF tone cap: .047 cap; 47nF; compatible example (Orange Drop .047µF)
- Output jack: Output Jack; compatible example (Switchcraft \#11)

## Specific to this wiring

- The tone capacitor sits on the tone pot's middle lug, with the signal on an outer lug.
- The bridge ground wire goes to the volume casing.

## Connections

1. Pickup black → Volume casing (case, black)
2. Volume right lug → Volume casing (case): Lug bent onto the casing.
3. .047 cap → Tone casing (case)
4. Tone casing → Volume casing (case, black)
5. Volume casing → Jack sleeve (wire, black): Crosses the tip wire without joining it.
6. Pickup white → Volume left lug (input) (wire, white)
7. Volume middle lug → Jack tip (wire, black)
8. Volume left lug → Tone left lug (wire, black)
9. Tone middle lug → .047 cap (wire)
10. Bridge ground → Volume casing (wire), listed, not drawn: Drawn leaving the page towards the bridge.

## What each position does

- Always on: Single coil. Source: One pickup, no selector.

- Pickup resistance is not specified, so no numeric meter readings are given.

## Check before plugging in

- With the volume up, the meter across the jack should read the pickup's resistance.
- With the volume at zero, tip and sleeve should read as a short.
