Phat Cat + humbucker · Three-way toggle · Two volumes · One tone

A Phat Cat in the neck and a Seymour Duncan humbucker in the bridge, each on its own 500k volume, then a three-way toggle and a 500k master tone with a .047 µF capacitor across the output.

## Parts and values

- Neck pickup (Phat Cat): Neck Pickup (Phat Cat); generic (Single-coil pickup (two-conductor))
- Bridge pickup: Bridge Pickup; generic (Humbucker (four-conductor, Seymour Duncan colours))
- 3-way toggle: 3-Way Toggle; compatible example (Switchcraft 3-Way Toggle)
- Bridge volume 500k: Bridge volume 500k; 500k; compatible example (CTS 500k Audio Pot)
- Neck volume 500k: Neck volume 500k; 500k; compatible example (CTS 500k Audio Pot)
- Master tone 500k: Master tone 500k; 500k; compatible example (CTS 500k Audio Pot)
- .047 cap: .047 cap (drawn green); 47nF; compatible example (Orange Drop .047µF)
- Output jack: Output Jack; compatible example (Switchcraft \#11)
- Bridge ground wire: Bridge ground wire; generic (Bridge ground wire)

## Specific to this wiring

- The Phat Cat has a single braided lead: the centre conductor goes to the neck volume's left lug and the braid to its casing.
- On the humbucker, the red and white leads are soldered together and taped off.
- Each volume's middle lug goes to the toggle; the toggle's output goes to the master tone's left lug, which also feeds the jack tip.
- The bridge ground wire and the jack sleeve both end on the tone casing, which is linked to the neck volume casing.
- The toggle tags are not labelled in the source, so they are mapped by what each does.
- The source's legend: the grey Solder mark is the location for ground (earth) connections.

## Connections

1. Bridge green → Bridge volume casing (case, green)
2. Bridge bare shield → Bridge volume casing (shield, bare): Drawn grey beside the green.
3. Bridge volume right lug → Bridge volume casing (case): Lug bent onto the casing.
4. Phat Cat braid → Neck volume casing (shield, bare)
5. Neck volume right lug → Neck volume casing (case): Lug bent onto the casing.
6. Toggle frame lug → Neck volume casing (case, black)
7. Bridge volume casing → Neck volume casing (case, black)
8. .047 cap → Master tone casing (case)
9. Neck volume casing → Master tone casing (case, black)
10. Bridge ground wire → Master tone casing (wire, black)
11. Master tone casing → Jack sleeve (wire, black)
12. Bridge volume middle lug → Toggle bridge lug (wire, black)
13. Neck volume middle lug → Toggle neck lug (wire, black)
14. Toggle output lug → Master tone left lug (wire, black)
15. Bridge red → Bridge white (insulated, red): Soldered together and taped off.
16. Bridge black → Bridge volume left lug (wire, black): Labelled Black in the source.
17. Phat Cat centre conductor → Neck volume left lug (wire, black)
18. Master tone left lug → Jack tip (wire, black)
19. Master tone middle lug → .047 cap (wire)

## What each position does

- Rhythm (neck): Neck pickup (Phat Cat). Source: Neck Phat Cat through the neck volume.
- Both: Neck pickup (Phat Cat) and Bridge pickup (both coils) in parallel. Source: Both pickups together.
- Treble (bridge): Bridge pickup (both coils). Source: Bridge humbucker through the bridge volume.

- The Phat Cat is simulated as a generic two-conductor single coil; hum and phase describe that generic model, not the Phat Cat.
- The source does not label the toggle positions; they follow the usual neck, both, bridge order.
- Pickup resistance is not specified, so no numeric meter readings are given.

## Check before plugging in

- In each toggle position, the meter across the jack should read the selected pickup, or both in parallel in the middle.
- The taped red–white joint should read open to ground.
