# Two humbuckers with a three-way blade, a push/pull phase neck volume and a push/pull split bridge volume

Two humbuckers · Three-way blade · Neck volume push/pull (phase) · Bridge volume push/pull (split) · No tone

Neck and bridge Seymour Duncan humbuckers, each with its own 500k push/pull volume before a three-way blade, and no tone. The neck volume's push/pull reverses the neck's black and green leads. The bridge volume's push/pull splits the bridge by grounding its red–white link.

## Parts and values

- Neck Pickup: Seymour Duncan Neck Pickup; generic (Humbucker (four-conductor, Seymour Duncan colours))
- Bridge Pickup: Seymour Duncan Bridge Pickup; generic (Humbucker (four-conductor, Seymour Duncan colours))
- 3-Way Blade Switch: 3 Way Blade; compatible example (CRL 3-Way Blade)
- Neck Volume 500k push/pull phase: Neck Volume 500k push/pull Phase Switch; 500k; compatible example (500k Push-Pull DPDT)
- Bridge Volume 500k push/pull split: Bridge Volume 500k push/pull Split Switch; 500k; compatible example (500k Push-Pull DPDT)
- Output Jack: Output Jack; compatible example (Switchcraft \#11)
- Bridge ground: Bridge ground wire; generic (Bridge ground wire)

## Specific to this wiring

- The source titles the volumes as push/pull coil split and push/pull phase.
- The neck red and white leads are soldered together and taped off.
- The neck black and green go through the neck volume's push/pull with an X cross-wire; the hot out feeds the neck volume's input lug.
- The bridge red and white are soldered together onto the middle lug of the bridge volume's push/pull bottom row; the lug nearest the pot goes to that pot's casing.
- Each volume's middle lug runs to a blade common; three short wires join four other lugs into one output to the jack tip.
- Solder = location for ground (earth) connections.
- The blade tags are not labelled in the source, so they are mapped by what each does.

## Connections

1. Neck green → Neck phase middle right (wire, green)
2. Neck bare → Neck volume casing (shield, bare)
3. Neck phase bottom left → Neck volume casing (case, black)
4. Neck volume right lug → Neck volume casing (case): Lug bent onto the casing.
5. Bridge green → Bridge volume casing (case, green)
6. Bridge bare → Bridge volume casing (shield, bare)
7. Bridge split bottom → Bridge volume casing (case, black)
8. Bridge volume right lug → Bridge volume casing (case): Lug bent onto the casing.
9. Neck volume casing → Bridge volume casing (case, black)
10. Bridge ground wire → Bridge volume casing (wire, black)
11. Bridge volume casing → Jack sleeve (case, black)
12. Neck volume middle lug → Blade neck common (wire, black)
13. Bridge volume middle lug → Blade bridge common (wire, black)
14. Blade lug → Blade lug (wire, black)
15. Blade lug → Blade lug (wire, black)
16. Blade lug → Blade lug (wire, black)
17. Blade output → Jack tip (wire, black)
18. Neck red → Neck white (insulated, red): Taped series link.
19. Neck black → Neck phase middle left (wire, black)
20. Bridge red → Bridge split middle (wire, red)
21. Bridge white → Bridge split middle (wire, white)
22. Bridge black → Bridge volume left lug (input) (wire, black)
23. Neck phase top left → Neck volume left lug (input) (wire, black)
24. Neck phase top left → Neck phase bottom right (wire, black): One leg of the X.
25. Neck phase top right → Neck phase bottom left (wire, black): The other leg of the X.

## What each position does

- Neck, both knobs down: Neck Pickup (both coils).
- Both, both knobs down: in phase: Neck Pickup (both coils) and Bridge Pickup (both coils) in parallel.
- Bridge, both knobs down: Bridge Pickup (both coils).
- Neck, phase pulled, bridge down: Neck Pickup (both coils). Source: Neck alone sounds the same when reversed.
- Both, phase pulled: out of phase: Neck Pickup (both coils) and Bridge Pickup (both coils) in parallel. Source: Neck reversed against the bridge.
- Bridge, phase pulled: Bridge Pickup (both coils). Source: The bridge does not pass through the phase switch.
- Neck, phase down, bridge split: Neck Pickup (both coils).
- Both, bridge split: Neck Pickup (both coils) and Bridge Pickup (split to one coil) in parallel. Source: Pulling the bridge volume splits the bridge.
- Bridge split: Bridge Pickup (split to one coil). Source: Pulling the bridge volume splits the bridge.
- Neck, phase and split pulled: Neck Pickup (both coils). Source: Neck alone sounds the same when reversed; bridge split does not affect it.
- Both, phase and split pulled: Neck Pickup (both coils) and Bridge Pickup (split to one coil) in parallel. Source: Neck reversed; bridge split.
- Bridge, phase and split pulled: Bridge Pickup (split to one coil). Source: Bridge split; phase switch does not affect the bridge.

- Hum cancelling and phase describe the generic pickup models, not a measurement of any specific Seymour Duncan model.
- Pickup resistance is not specified, so no numeric meter readings are given.

## Check before plugging in

- In each blade position the jack should read the selected pickup, or both in parallel in the middle.
- Bridge volume pulled: the bridge red–white link should read continuity to ground.
- Neck volume pulled in the middle position: the two pickups should be out of phase.
