# Two humbuckers with a three-way toggle, one volume and a push/pull split tone

Two humbuckers · Three-way toggle · One volume · One push/pull tone (splits both)

Neck and bridge Seymour Duncan humbuckers on a three-way toggle with one 500k volume and a 500k push/pull tone with a .047 µF capacitor. The tone's push/pull switch grounds the red–white coil link of both pickups at once, so pulling the knob turns each humbucker into a single coil.

## Parts and values

- Neck pickup: Seymour Duncan Neck Pickup; generic (Humbucker (four-conductor, Seymour Duncan colours))
- Bridge pickup: Seymour Duncan Bridge Pickup; generic (Humbucker (four-conductor, Seymour Duncan colours))
- 3-way toggle: 3 Way Toggle; compatible example (Switchcraft 3-Way Toggle)
- Volume 500k: Volume 500k; 500k; compatible example (CTS 500k Audio Pot)
- Tone 500k push/pull: Tone 500k push/pull (Coil Split); 500k; compatible example (500k Push-Pull DPDT)
- .047 cap: .047 cap (drawn green); 47nF; compatible example (Orange Drop .047µF)
- Output jack: Output Jack; compatible example (Switchcraft \#11)
- Bridge ground: Bridge ground wire; generic (Bridge ground wire)

## Specific to this wiring

- The source titles the tone's push/pull as a coil split switch that splits both pickups.
- Each pickup's red and white leads are soldered together onto one middle lug of the coil split switch, not taped off: bridge on the left column, neck on the right.
- The two switch lugs in the row nearest the pot are jumpered together and wired to the tone casing; the row furthest from the pot stays empty.
- The tone takes its signal from the volume's input lug, before the volume.
- The neck ground leads, the toggle's frame tag and the bridge ground wire end on the volume casing; the bridge ground leads and the jack sleeve end on the tone casing, which is wired to the volume casing.
- Solder = location for ground (earth) connections.
- The toggle tags are not labelled in the source, so they are mapped by what each does.

## Connections

1. Neck green → Volume casing (case, green)
2. Neck bare shield → Volume casing (shield, bare): Drawn grey beside the green.
3. Bridge green → Tone casing (case, green)
4. Bridge bare shield → Tone casing (shield, bare): Drawn grey beside the green.
5. Toggle left tag → Volume casing (case, black): Arcs over the top of the toggle.
6. Volume right lug → Volume casing (case): Lug bent onto the casing.
7. .047 cap → Tone casing (case)
8. Volume casing → Tone casing (case, black)
9. Bridge ground wire → Volume casing (wire, black)
10. Tone casing → Jack sleeve (wire, black): Hops over the neck red/white bundle.
11. Coil split left lug nearest the pot → Tone casing (case, black)
12. Neck black → Toggle upper right tag (wire, black)
13. Bridge black → Toggle lower right tag (wire, black)
14. Toggle middle right tags → Volume left lug (input) (wire, black)
15. Neck white → Coil split right middle lug (wire, white): Loops round the right edge of the cavity.
16. Neck red → Coil split right middle lug (wire, red): Shares the lug with the neck white.
17. Bridge white → Coil split left middle lug (wire, white)
18. Bridge red → Coil split left middle lug (wire, red): Shares the lug with the bridge white.
19. Volume middle lug → Jack tip (wire, black): Hops over the neck red/white bundle; the volume-to-tone ground wire hops over this wire. Neither crossing connects.
20. Volume left lug → Tone left lug (wire, black)
21. Tone middle lug → .047 cap (wire)
22. Coil split left lug nearest the pot → Coil split right lug nearest the pot (wire, black): Short jumper along the row nearest the pot.

## What each position does

- Neck, knob down: full humbucker: Neck pickup (both coils).
- Both, knob down: both humbuckers: Neck pickup (both coils) and Bridge pickup (both coils) in parallel.
- Bridge, knob down: full humbucker: Bridge pickup (both coils).
- Neck, knob pulled: single coil: Neck pickup (split to one coil). Source: The coil split switch splits both pickups.
- Both, knob pulled: both split: Neck pickup (split to one coil) and Bridge pickup (split to one coil) in parallel. Source: The coil split switch splits both pickups.
- Bridge, knob pulled: single coil: Bridge pickup (split to one coil). Source: The coil split switch splits both pickups.

- Hum cancelling and phase describe the generic pickup models, not a measurement of any specific Seymour Duncan model.
- Pickup resistance is not specified, so no numeric meter readings are given.
- The source does not say which knob position splits; this follows the usual push/pull behaviour (pulled joins the middle lugs to the lugs nearest the pot).

## Check before plugging in

- Tone knob down: in each toggle position the meter across the jack reads the selected humbucker, or both in parallel in the middle.
- Tone knob up: each reading drops to roughly one coil's resistance.
- With the volume at zero, tip and sleeve should read as a short in every position.
