Two P-Rails, three-way toggle, two ON-OFF-ON mini-toggles, two volumes and two tones

Parts and values

“Example part” means any part with the same value and lugs will do; the source does not name a brand. “Generic” stands in for an unspecified pickup: check your own pickup's lead colours before you solder.

Specific to this wiring

• ON-OFF-ON (dpdt) mini-toggle switch settings: UP = Rail (single coil strat sound); MIDDLE = full humbucker sound (series); DOWN = P-90 sound.
• Neck and bridge P-Rails are wound so that each set of matching single coils will be hum-canceling. This means that, when in split-mode, using both P-90 coils together OR using both Rail coils together will yield hum-canceling.
• On each mini-toggle only the left column is used: black on the top lug, red & white on the middle lug, green & bare on the bottom lug. The right-hand lugs are drawn empty.
• The neck mini-toggle's top lug feeds the neck volume; its bottom (ground) lug goes to the bridge volume casing. The bridge mini-toggle's top lug feeds the bridge volume; its bottom lug goes to the bridge tone casing.
• Each volume's input lug is also wired to its own tone's left lug; each tone's middle lug carries a .047 cap to the tone casing.
• The selector's middle lug goes straight to the jack Tip; its frame lug goes to the neck volume casing.
• The source legend marks the grey 'Solder' spots as the location for ground (earth) connections. Sleeve (ground): the inner, circular portion of the jack. Tip: hot output.
• The selector and mini-toggle tags are not labelled in the source, so they are mapped by what each does.

What each position does

Checked with the Tinkercaster wiring engine against the switching the source describes.

• The mini-toggles are modelled with switchPosition on pole B of the catalog on-on-on mini: throw 1 = down (P-90), throw 2 = centre (off, full humbucker), throw 3 = up (Rail). Which lever direction reaches which throw follows the source legend, not a lug label.
• The engine reports either single-coil mode as a split; which coil is the Rail and which the P-90 follows the source legend and the stand-in's lead roles, not a measurement.
• Hum cancelling and phase describe the generic P-Rails stand-in, not measured Seymour Duncan P-Rails.
• Pickup resistance is not specified, so no numeric meter readings are given.

Before you solder

• Identify every lead on your pickups against the source's colours.

Check before plugging in

• Both mini-toggles in the middle: in each selector position the meter across the jack reads the selected P-Rails as a full humbucker, or both in parallel in the middle.
• Flip one mini-toggle up or down: only that pickup's reading drops to roughly one coil's resistance.
• With a mini-toggle down, its black lead and red/white link should read as one connection; with it up, the red/white link should read as ground.

Measure across the output jack with a multimeter on its resistance range. No exact readings are given where the source does not specify the pickups.
