| Output jackSource: Output Jack | — | Switchcraft #11Example part |
| Ground wire to bridge | — | Bridge ground wireGeneric |
“Example part” means any part with the same value and lugs will do; the source does not name a brand. “Generic” stands in for an unspecified pickup: check your own pickup's lead colours before you solder.
Specific to this wiring
- Solder = location for ground (earth) connections.
- Jack: Tip (hot output); Sleeve (ground). The inner, circular portion of the jack.
- Ground wire to bridge.
- The sheet prints no position legend and does not number the switch lugs; the lugs are mapped by what they do (see the terminal mapping).
- 1 volume: push | pull coil split.
Understand this wiring
- Seymour Duncan humbucker wire colors
See the pickup, recognise its two halves, and learn where each coloured wire goes.
- Seymour Duncan coil splitting explained
A humbucker has two coils. See how a switch lets you use just one of them.
Connections
In soldering order: grounds first, then the switch, the pickups and the signal path.

| 9 | SCH black | Switch upper row, fourth lugSCH black leaves the cable, arcs up over the controls and lands on the upper-row lug at the far end from the common (mapped T3, bridge throw, positions 1-2). | Wireblack |
| 10 | Middle white | Switch upper row, third lugMiddle single-coil white runs in the lower of the two white leads to the third upper-row lug from the common (mapped T1, positions 2-4). | Wirewhite |
| 11 | Neck white | Switch upper row, second lugNeck single-coil white passes the middle pickup and runs as the outer white lead to the upper-row lug next to the common (mapped T2, positions 4-5). | Wirewhite |
| 12 | Switch upper row, first lug | Switch lower row, fourth lugWhite jumper from the upper-row end lug (the common) along under the row to the opposite-row lug at the far end (mapped T8, the second pole's common, diagonally opposite). | Wirewhite |

What each position does
| Setting | The source | Engine result |
|---|---|---|
| Bridge · pushed | The sheet prints no position legend; this is the standard 5-way contact table with the lugs mapped by function. | Bridge single coil sized humbucker (both coils). |
| Bridge · pulled | The sheet prints no position legend; this is the standard 5-way contact table with the lugs mapped by function. Pulled grounds the SCH red & white ('push | pull coil split'). | Bridge single coil sized humbucker (split to one coil). |
| Bridge + middle · pushed | The sheet prints no position legend; this is the standard 5-way contact table with the lugs mapped by function. | Middle single coil and Bridge single coil sized humbucker (both coils) in parallel. |
| Bridge + middle · pulled | The sheet prints no position legend; this is the standard 5-way contact table with the lugs mapped by function. Pulled grounds the SCH red & white ('push | pull coil split'). | Middle single coil and Bridge single coil sized humbucker (split to one coil) in parallel. |
| Middle · pushed | The sheet prints no position legend; this is the standard 5-way contact table with the lugs mapped by function. | Middle single coil. |
| Middle · pulled | The sheet prints no position legend; this is the standard 5-way contact table with the lugs mapped by function. The SCH is not selected, so pulling changes nothing here. | Middle single coil. |

| Middle + neck · pulled | The sheet prints no position legend; this is the standard 5-way contact table with the lugs mapped by function. The SCH is not selected, so pulling changes nothing here. | Neck single coil and Middle single coil in parallel. |

| Neck · pulled | The sheet prints no position legend; this is the standard 5-way contact table with the lugs mapped by function. The SCH is not selected, so pulling changes nothing here. | Neck single coil. |
Not simulated: this circuit is drawn for reference only.
- The sheet prints no pot values; 250k stand-ins are used.
- The single coil sized humbucker is modelled by a generic four-conductor humbucker; hum cancelling and phase describe the generic model.
- The sheet does not say which knob position splits beyond 'push | pull coil split'; this follows the usual push/pull behaviour (pulled joins the middle lugs to the lugs nearest the pot).
- Pickup resistance is not specified, so no numeric meter readings are given.
Before you solder
Ticks are kept in this browser only, as a reminder. They are not a check of your joints. New to soldering? Read the soldering cheat sheet.
Check before plugging in
- Knob pushed: positions 1 and 2 read the full humbucker.
- Knob pulled: positions 1 and 2 read one humbucker coil; the red & white read ground.
Measure across the output jack with a multimeter on its resistance range. No exact readings are given where the source does not specify the pickups.
