Three Strat Stack Plus pickups with a super 5-way blade and volume

Three Strat Stack Plus · 4-pole super 5-way · One volume

Seymour Duncan sheet: three Strat Stack Plus pickups on a 4-pole 5-way super switch with a 250k master volume and no tone. The two in-between positions split both selected pickups; the other three use one stack whole.

“Example part” means any part with the same value and lugs will do; the source does not name a brand. “Generic” stands in for an unspecified pickup: check your own pickup's lead colours before you solder.

Specific to this wiring

  • Switch legend: 1. Bridge full stack; 2. Bridge split + Middle split; 3. Middle full stack; 4. Neck split + Middle split; 5. Neck full stack.
  • Black & bare wires from ALL pickups get soldered here: the upper Solder spot on the volume casing.
  • Switch lead labels as printed: bridge white, neck white, middle white, middle red, bridge red, neck red.
  • The source does not number the super switch's lugs; the lugs are mapped by what they do (see the terminal mapping).
  • Jack: Tip (hot output); Sleeve (ground). The inner, circular portion of the jack.

Connections

In soldering order: grounds first, then the switch, the pickups and the signal path.

Checked with the Tinkercaster wiring engine against the switching the source describes.

  • The on-board component drawn across the bottom-coil pads of each Strat Stack Plus (no value printed) is not modelled.
  • The engine reports hum cancelling as unknown for the two split pairs.
  • Pickup resistance is not specified, so no numeric meter readings are given.

Before you solder

Ticks are kept in this browser only, as a reminder. They are not a check of your joints. New to soldering? Read the soldering cheat sheet.

Check before plugging in

  • In each switch position, the meter across the jack should read the stack or split pair the legend names.
  • In position 1 the bridge red lug should read open to ground; in position 2 it should read ground.

Measure across the output jack with a multimeter on its resistance range. No exact readings are given where the source does not specify the pickups.
