“Example part” means any part with the same value and lugs will do; the source does not name a brand. “Generic” stands in for an unspecified pickup: check your own pickup's lead colours before you solder.
Specific to this wiring
- 5-Way switch settings: Bridge pickup full; Bridge-split + middle-split (hum canceling); Middle pickup full; Middle-split + neck-split (hum canceling); Neck pickup full.
- Black & bare wires from neck & middle pickups get soldered here, along with green & bare from bridge pickup: the upper Solder spot on the volume casing.
- Switch lead labels as printed: bridge black, neck white, middle white, middle red, bridge red & white, neck red.
- The source does not number the super switch's lugs or positions; the lugs are mapped by what they do (see the terminal mapping).
- Jack: Tip (hot output); Sleeve (ground). The inner, circular portion of the jack.
- The tone cap is printed '.022 cap'.
Understand this wiring
- Seymour Duncan humbucker wire colors
See the pickup, recognise its two halves, and learn where each coloured wire goes.
Connections
In soldering order: grounds first, then the switch, the pickups and the signal path.

What each position does
| Setting | The source | Engine result |
|---|---|---|
| Bridge pickup full | Bridge pickup full. | Bridge single-coil-sized humbucker (both coils). |
| Bridge-split + middle-split | Bridge-split + middle-split (hum canceling). | Middle Strat Stack Plus (split to one coil) and Bridge single-coil-sized humbucker (split to one coil) in parallel. |
| Middle pickup full | Middle pickup full. | Middle Strat Stack Plus (both coils). |
| Middle-split + neck-split | Middle-split + neck-split (hum canceling). | Neck Strat Stack Plus (split to one coil) and Middle Strat Stack Plus (split to one coil) in parallel. |
| Neck pickup full | Neck pickup full. | Neck Strat Stack Plus (both coils). |
Checked with the Tinkercaster wiring engine against the switching the source describes.
- The on-board component drawn across the bottom-coil pads of each Strat Stack Plus (no value printed) is not modelled.
- The engine cannot confirm the hum cancelling the legend prints for the two split pairs; it reports those positions as unknown.
- The single-coil-sized bridge humbucker is modelled by a generic four-conductor humbucker; hum cancelling and phase describe the generic models.
- Pickup resistance is not specified, so no numeric meter readings are given.
Before you solder
Ticks are kept in this browser only, as a reminder. They are not a check of your joints. New to soldering? Read the soldering cheat sheet.
Check before plugging in
- In each switch position, the meter across the jack should read the pickup or split pair the legend names.
- In position 1 the bridge red & white lug should read open to ground; in position 2 it should read ground.
Measure across the output jack with a multimeter on its resistance range. No exact readings are given where the source does not specify the pickups.
